Ragging case reported in Bengal varsity
The Bengal Engineering and Science University (Besu) once again came under fire with the allegation of ragging of a third year student.
The victim had alleged that he was ragged by seven fourth year students at the hostel. A written complaint was lodged with the Shibpur police who had come to the campus for investigation. The authorities had then immediately constituted a committee headed by registrar Biman Bandopadhyay to probe into the incident. The seven students, including the complainant, were called by the committee on Saturday and were grilled for hours. It was learnt from the varsity authorities that the probe committee had found that the third year student was beaten by the seven accused students.
On Monday, the campus remained tensed as the news spread. The probe committee, however, termed the case as “peer fight”.
