Search committee fails to submit names
The members of the search committee for the Presidency University missed their deadline to submit the names of the probable candidates for the post of vice-chancellor on Friday. The search committee was constituted by the state government on August 2 to suggest names of the probable candidates for the university-in-waiting.
According to sources of the state higher education department, the committee has failed to suggest the names as many candidates have declined their proposal.
P.N. Ghosh, the vice-chancellor of Jadavpur University who is also the chairman of the committee, refused to comment on the matter when contacted.
However, principal secretary of the state higher education department, Satish Tiwari accepting the non receipt of the list of probable names, said: “The committee has neither given the names nor have sought an extension on the matter.”
Significantly, state higher education department minister Sudarshan Ray Chaudhuri had earlier declared that the appointment of the vice-chancellor of the Presidency University would be done by the first week of October. Meanwhile, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to revise the norms for applying for the post of a lecturer. The UGC is all set to withdraw its earlier policy which stated that the eligible candidates who had completed their Ph.D prior to 2009, must qualify the National Eligibility Test.
