Six Tribals lose eye sight after cataract surgery
Six tribals from Lalbag have allegedly lost their sight in their right eyes after they were operated without their consent in a private hospital in Berhampore. According to the police, the tribals — five women and a man — from Ichagunj Mogultuli Diyar area are BPL and RSBP (Rashtriya Swastha Bima Praklapa) cards holders.
One of the victims Haren Chowdhury said that on Friday, five persons from the hospital approached them and told them that were offering a health check-up for the tribals. As he was suffering from stomach ache for the past few days, he agreed. So did some other tribals who were suffering from various ailment.
However, on Saturday, the hospital authorities performed operation for eye cataract on three of them and another three on Sunday forcibly. They charged for the operations using their RSDP credit card. Soon after the operation, all six lost their sight in the right eye.
