State to open four sports schools
The students interested in taking up sports as their career would be gifted with new sports schools where they can take up sports and also study simultaneously. The state government plans to open four new sports school in the state.
“At present, we have only one sports school in the state at Banipur in Habra. It has often been found that students who are more inclined in sports do not have much scope at the regular schools. These new sports schools would be teaching various aspects of different sports along with the academics, ” state school education minister Partha De said on Wednesday.
The minister was speaking at a programme held at the Shiksha Bhavan, the office of the primary council of Kolkata district.
He also informed that the students interested to take up sports as their future career could seek admission in these schools from Class 5 onwards. “These schools would be residential ones from Class 5 to Class 10. The department would be earmarking areas in the districts so that these new school could come up there,” Mr De said.
Meanwhile, according to sources, the sports school at Banipur lacks infrastructure for which not many students are seeking admission. Accepting the situation, Mr De said, “The school education department is formulating policies to upgrade the existing infrastructure.”
