State talks tough on Dunlop issue
The state government will not remain a mere spectator if the management of Dunlop India Limited (DIL) does not re-open its Sahagunj plant. Though the DIL management announced to withdraw the work suspension at Sahagunj in phases, the plant is yet to be opened as the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) has refused to restore electricity supply due to non-payment of dues.
State commerce and industries minister Partha Chatterjee said, “The government will not sit idle if the factory does not re-open. The DIL management has to open the factory and run it.”
The state government also sought details from the DIL management regarding its dues on account of electricity bill and municipal tax. “According to our estimate, they have defaulted around `30 crore on account of electricity bill and municipal tax,” state labour minister Purnendu Bose said.
Meanwhile, the DIL management has sent a letter to the state labour department seeking its intervention for holding bipartite talks between the management and the workers’ unions. Mr Bose, however, made it clear that the government would not take any initiative on this matter.
