We’re trying to mend ways: Buddha
Former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Friday made a passionate appeal to the people to return to the CPI(M) fold.
“The people deserted us because of our mistakes. Now we are trying our best to mend our ways. Our partymen who had become arrogant and tried to bully people have been expelled from the party. You won’t get anything from the Trinamul Congress because CPI(M) alone cares for the poor and the oppressed,” he added. Mr Bhattacharjee was addressing a party rally at Durgapur on the concluding day of Burdwan district conference.
That the former chief minister was trying to regain the confidence of the people was evident when he warned party leaders against associating with anti-socials, contractors and promoters. “Those who did not change were removed,” he added.
Gunning for both the Congress and Trinamul Congress, Mr Bhattacharjee said that while the Congress was to be blamed for its policy to divide the country into two: the India of the haves and the have-nots, the latter was a party of irresponsible people bent on taking the state on the path of anarchy. Launching a scathing attack against Mamata Banerjee government, Mr Bhattacharjee said that the only poribortan was that it was taking the state backwards instead on the path of development. Claiming that the new government had failed on all fronts, Mr Bhattacharjee specifically attacked its policy decisions on industry, agriculture and law and order. Describing Ms Banerjee’s land policy as totally flawed, he said that it had left the industrialists totally confused and uncertain.
