Wife wants CBI to probe Tamang’s assassination
The Madan Tamang murder case took a new twist on Wednesday after the slain Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League president’s widow, Bharati Tamang demanded a CBI probe into her husband’s murder. She made this demand following the death of Raju Tamang, the security guard of her son Sanjog, under mysterious circumstances.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the progress in the CID probe, Ms Tamang said, “The CID probe is heading nowhere. Three months have passed but the culprits are roaming free. Even the prime accused Nicole Tamang who was arrested, managed to escape. So I want the CBI to investigate into my husband’s murder and the incidents happening thereafter.”
Earlier in the day, the body of Raju, 29, was found at the first floor flat of Uttarayan Township near Siliguri. While Sanjog stays at the ground floor flat, Raju used to stay above him for security reasons. “At around 10.30 am, when I went to call Raju, no response came from his room,” said Sanjog.
The door was broken and the body was found lying on the bed. Sleeping pills were found near it.
Official sources revealed that Raju was employed in June for Sanjog’s security following Tamang’s murder.
However, when asked, Sanjog brushed aside any link of Raju’s death with his father’s murder, and said: “He may have died due to overdose of sleeping pills.” The police has initiated a case of unnatural death.
After visiting the flat, superintendent of police (Darjeeling) D.P. Singh said, “His death does not look like a case of suicide although the door was locked from inside. But no external injury was found on the body. The body was sent for post mortem. We are now waiting for the post-mortem report.”
