‘Keep it simple’ is Sush’s style mantra

India have gone into the Cup as favourites. And I hope they play out of their skins and get the World Cup this time around.” These wishes for the Men in Blue came from actress and ex-Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen, someone who knows a bit about coming trumps over contestants from all over the World.
In Delhi for the launch of designers Vikram Phadnis and Malini Agarwalla’s flagship store, Sushmita looked like a million dollars in the pearl-white and golden attire designed by Phadnis and armed with a 1000-watt-smile. Talking about her association with Vikram Phadnis, Sush said, “He has been designing for me for the past 12 years, begining from Biwi No. 1 which also happened to be my first successful film. And from then till my last he has designed for me in all my films.”
Talking about what defines her style statement, Sushmita says she sticks to the “KISS” formula, which in her case means “Keep It Simple Sush.” “Whenever I’m decked up like a ‘Christmas tree’ I feel that something is not quite right.”
And stressing about her casual dressing sense, she added, “When I’m with my kids I prefer wearing shorts and T-shirts as one of my daughters is one-and-a-half years old and the other is 11. So while one has me following her around on my knees the other has me playing with colours. So the jeans and Ts allow me to get dirty.”
Flanked by women at the boutique, Sush wowed everyone on Women’s Day by doing an encore of her 1994 pageant answer. “Being a woman itself is the biggest celebration and honour for me. Being born a woman is in itself the biggest blessing,” said she and wished all ladies on their day.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
