As a tiny tot, Shriya remembers writing her first book, The Orphan Girl. At that point, she didn’t even know how to spell the word ‘orphan’ and spelt it with a ‘t’ at the end. Obviously it never got published. But she had the urge to write and publish her work and now the young 16 year-old has managed to come up with her first published work, One.
“I have been writing short stories and poems ever since I can remember. The story and characters of One had been developing in my mind ever since the age of seven and I wanted the story out of my system. Eventually I wrote it in just seven months,” says Shriya. The book is a combination of romance, fantasy and mystery and is based in present day Ibinia, a fictitional island in Greece. She was in the city for the launch of her book at Landmark, Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj.
Talking about her novel further, she adds, “I am terribly fascinated by Greek culture. The history, and mythology of the place fascinates me. So my first book is set in Greece. I spent hours researching the country to get the smallest details right.”
So how did she manage to write the novel? “I wrote the novel in Class 10 after school hours in whatever time I could spare and especially on weekends. Thankfully, I managed to do well in school and my novel also is doing well,” says Shriya enthusiastically. Right now, Shriya is already shaping out a sequel to One which will be called Implosion.
Shriya loves to spend time in the capital. “I love shopping in malls and warm vibes of Delhiwallas,” she concludes.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
