30 minutes and counting
25-year-old stock broker Rishi Rochlani is no longer bothered with fat phone bills because of roaming charges. Rochlani now has the luxury to make umpteen calls to his contacts through his laptop without spending a penny, thanks to Numbertank.com. This is believed to be India’s first ever ‘skype like’ free calling website.
Founded by business graduate Rohan Sawlani, Numbertank.com offers its members 30 minutes of free talk time per day. “Our users can call anyone in India, United States, Canada and UK. Each member can talk for half an hour. If you stay within the time limit, talk time gets carried over to the next day,” says Sawlani.
What makes Numbertank different from Skype is that only the person who makes the call has to use a computer. “I have called my friends in New York and London. They needn’t have to depend on a PC or laptop to receive my call,” says analyst Jincy CA, who has been using this service for close to three weeks now.
With over 250 users signing up within weeks of the launch, the founder has an ambitious plan to include all continents under Numbertank.com.
“As of now, members can make two-way calls only to Canada, the US and UK. So our next step will be to enable people across the globe to call each other,” says Sawlani.
Users are now looking forward to an upgraded mobile application. “This service is superb. If they come up with a phone application for BlackBerry and other mobile phones, that would be great,” says Rochlani, a regular user.
