31 is the new sexy

Even with the zeal, zing and enthusiasm young women have about them, there’s a charm about the ones who’ve crossed the 30s bar, isn’t it? If statistics from this recent UK survey are to believed, then “women are the most alluring and beautiful at 31.” More so, the survey goes on to say that mature women are far more attractive than teenage girls. While much has been said about young boys falling for older women, men talk about what they feel makes a woman sexy at 31.
“Sweet 16 holds no allure anymore as men look for mature inner beauty. With age comes wisdom. Today’s man is looking for a more sensible, enriched, intelligent, respectable and levelheaded women,” says Mayank Srivastava, a businessman.
So is 31 the new sexy? Stand up comedian Vir Das says women reach their sexual peak at 31, and are “definitely more alluring at that age.”
“They are much more confident at that age, they are comfortable with who they are. I’ve dated a woman who was around that age, and can surely say that women have a completely different sex appeal about them at that age. They’re wiser, and are sexier,” quips Vir.
For some men, women at 31 are “effortlessly elegant”. Anand, a law student says, “I once met a woman who was 31, and we became friends through someone. I initially thought she’ll be boring, but when I started chatting with her often, I figured out that there was a serenity and sex appeal about her that you don’t really see in young girls.”
Others feel that with age comes maturity that adds to a woman’s sex appeal. “If you look at the Indian actresses today, they look much more sexy and versatile in their 30s. Be it Kajol, Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherjee or Sushmita Sen. In fact, I started liking Kajol only from the last few years. Sushmita makes few appearances but looks even more stunning with each passing year. I believe wisdom, maturity, coupled with sex appeal is what makes women at 31 so alluring,” says Anuj Mehta, a 26-year-old businessman.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
