He loves juggling many hats. From being a national level swimmer, one of the most successful male models to actor, producer, businessman, Limca record holder for running and a philanthropist, Milind Soman has been there and done that. At 48, he insists he wants to do a lot more.
In the city to promote HCG Pinkathon Delhi, an initiative to encourage and promote fitness and health among women, organised by Maximus Events, Milind talks about his stint with regional cinema. He was recently seen in Tamil film Alex Pandian and will be seen in a Marathi film soon. Milind says that he is very impressed with the way regional cinema is evolving. “It’s a very interesting and different experience to work with people from other cultures. I have also worked in Swedish, Japanese and Telugu films. Marathi cinema is very intelligent and I was shocked to see how fast it’s evolving. Regional cinema is the next big thing,” says Milind, adding that he doesn’t keep track of how well his film are received.
“As soon as I shoot my part, I am done with it. Then I move on to another project and therefore box office collections never bother me. Though when it comes to films, I am very choosy. I find thrillers and sci-fi movies most exciting,” says Milind who was last seen in the film David in Bollywood.
In spite of being a successful model Milind says he never goes to fashion shows. When asked about celebrities being showstoppers in most fashion shows, Milind comments that if designers want celebrities then there’s nothing much models can do about it. “It’s all about business. If a designer wants Shah Rukh Khan to walk the ramp for publicity, then nothing can be done. Thankfully, these days models also have alternate options like films, reality shows and TV,” says Milind.
Admitting that he is a fitness freak, Milind says that running has been his favourite form of exercise. “People keep saying that they don’t have time to exercise. Though I am expected to be in shape since I am a model and actor, even I have hectic schedules that don’t allow me to exercise everyday. My fitness mantra is simple: be active and eat healthy. My parents have always encouraged me to be fit in life. I have always been involved in sports throughout my life. Even at 48, I feel like I am in my 20s and everyone should feel like that. Everyone must find time for themselves,” wraps up Milind.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
