Abhi’s compassionate side
Balloons, sparklers and bright colours by the poolside set the perfect mood for a kiddie party. Enthusiastic giggles and banter could be heard everywhere. Ace fashion designer Ritu Beri played gracious host at the annual kids’ fashion show, organised to create awareness for autism and raise funds to support underprivileged children. Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan was the star guest at the show.
The show started with an auction of a designer T-shirt autographed by Abhishek and was bought by Member of Parliament Jay Panda for `5 lakh. This was followed by the kiddie fashion show that had the theme ‘The Hippie Baby’. Floral prints, bright colours, large wigs and shades put the 60s back on the ramp.
“I have tried to play with a plethora of vibrant colours. I have kept the cuts simple and generous. It is so much fun to take this generation back to the 60s era,” said Ritu Beri.
Towards the end of the show, Junior Bachchan, dressed in a black jacket and blue jeans, hit the ramp and shook a leg with the kids on his hit numbers like Bol Bachchan, Kajra Re and Desi Girl.
Addressing the media, the actor put forth, “I am really grateful to have received this opportunity to associate myself with a cause. Awareness about autism needs to be spread and I am glad through this show we are trying to do so.”
On being asked about the responsibility of a parent towards his child, Abhishek said, “Education, love, care and understanding are the most important gifts that a parent can give his child. Material goods can never substitute for them. Also, our society has always thrust the responsibility of rearing children on the mother. But I believe, a father has an equal role to play and should share responsibility with the mother.”
Earlier, it had been rumoured that Aaradhya would be walking the ramp with her father. However, she was not present at the event. On being asked about her absence, AB Junior smiled and said, “She is in Dubai and is too small to make public appearances. I am sure, when she grows up, she would love to lend support to causes like these.”
On being prodded further about Aaradhya’s future endeavours, the proud father said, “It was fun to attend the fashion show and I realised that most of these kids on the ramp are better than me. As for Aaradhya, let her grow and decide her career course. It will be completely her choice.”
