Accessorise in an eco-friendly way
Recycle, reuse and renovate” is the idea that is churning out creative works these days. The upcoming jewellery convention by the World Crafts Council (WCC) promises to bring out “recycled and redesigned” elements in the next edition of “Abhushan: Design-Dialogues In Jewellery”, which will be held in the capital from Feb 4 to 6.
Prior to the main convention a workshop about jewellery designing and craftsmen will be held from Jan 28, informs Usha Krishna, president, WCC. She says, “The real concept behind starting this convention is to promote talented craftsmen in our country. It will also be a platform for budding jewellery designers, who can learn about traditional arts and in exchange give innovative ideas to further strengthen the jewellery business.”
The convention will explore how common everyday materials like grass, wood, bone, metal and recycled materials can be transformed into exquisite jewellery through the skills of a craftsperson /designer. “Around 100 craftsmen from from six different places like North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and India will come together and showcase their work at this convention. We have a special section on Indian jewellery, where jewellers and designers from different states will be showcasing their native art,” adds Usha.
The convention will be open for all and there will be a curated exhibition of jewellery pieces from across the world. Usha reveals, “Around 35-40 pieces from each region of the world will be on display at the exhibition. There will be a separate jewellery bazaar too, where people can buy ornaments. The jewels that will be on sale will be made of different materials like seeds, fiber, shells, and threads mixed with semi-precious stones, crystals and other metals. These pieces are very popular with the eco-friendly young generation and don’t cost too much.”
