The actor with novel ideas

A still from Jism 2

He played a suave cop in his last release Jism 2, and now he will be seen playing a de-glamourised political aspirant in Ek Bura Aadmi. Playing diverse characters seems to have found favour with Arunoday Singh, 30, the tall actor who is famous for his political background because of late grandfather Arjun Singh. Yet after playing different roles in his four-year-old career, Arunoday feels he has a long way to go and still belongs to the category of strugglers.

Explaining his headstrong and brash character of Munna Siddiqui in upcoming Ek Bura Aadmi, Arunoday says it’s an intense role. “It is a fictional character based in UP and Bihar. The character is that of a small-town boy who is shaken by the corrupt political system that rules his village and then he goes on to tackle this system in his own way. In a way, he does many things against the law. What is impressive about Munna is his iron-clad will and determination to move forward,” says the actor.
He hastens to add that playing a de-glamourised role was never a cause of concern. “It did not bother me that I’ll be seen in a lungi in the film. I have learnt that you should have fun and not take yourself seriously while you are playing any character,” he laughs.
Talking about his past success — Jism 2 — Arunoday humbly refuses to accept it as a turning point in his career. “It (Jism 2) did not bring in any change as such, and I did not expect it to be a great turning point either. I was simply doing my job and enjoyed working with Bhatt saab. I don’t hold too many expectations from my films, as they are just a job for me and the less I think about them, the happier I am,” shares Arunoday.
His modest admissions speak a lot about this young talent. He agrees that despite the success he got with Jism 2 and Yeh Saali Zindagi, he is not a chooser in the game yet. “I have not reached a point where I can pick up characters according to my choice. I still have to fit in somebody else’s vision of a character. I don’t think I am that successful yet,” he says.
Though he does not have big projects in hand, Arunoday is content with the kind of films he is doing. “I am working in Rensil D’Silva’s Ungli and doing David Dhawan’s untitled film. I am slowly climbing the ladder and want to work with the likes of Vishal Bhardwaj, Vikramaditya Motwane, Sudhir Mishra and Anurag Kashyap. I have a long list. And if I don’t get to work with them, I am going to become a writer. I had been thinking of writing a novel someday. All I need is faith and focus on my talent,” he ends.
