Adverts to adore
Sharing a bar of chocolate, shy glances at the girl next door, a group of boys looking at a girl passing by, romancing at a bus stop… Teenage romances are all the rage in television commercials. These ads are instant mood lifters and it’s difficult not to smile when the father of a teenage girl walks up the stairs, to find his daughter and a boy sharing a bar of chocolate. Another example is the BlackBerry Messenger series, all comprising of teenagers, either sending a note through the window of a classroom or in a bus.
Model Renita Susan Coelho says that they’re very natural. “I like these ads. They’re not superficial and very nicely done. Moreover, the fact that they use young people makes me want to see the entire ad. And sometimes, the smile lingers even after the ad. They definitely give viewer satisfaction.”
There is also one constant among all these commercials — fresh, new faces that portray teenagers. They haven’t been seen in any other ad film or movie and give an idea of an ‘everyday’ look. Sneha Iype, executive producer, Nirvana Films, says, “The idea of the ‘girl next door’ always hits home. People relate more to them as opposed to a celebrity endorsing a product. But the reason that these faces are ‘fresh’ is also because there are not many ‘stars’ in that age group.”
