In the age of fitness
Thirty years ago, being a fitness trainer was not even considered a career by many. But Mickey Mehta changed that perception and how! Today India knows him not only as a holistic health guru but also as a life coach, philosopher and groomer.
When asked about his journey so far, he says, “Life hasn’t been a bed of roses. It has had its share of thorns.” Starting off as a martial arts instructor, Mickey got into the field of nutrition and diet. And there was no looking back ever since. He took up this profession in the early 80s. But he was determined to make it big in life. Today he feels lucky to have achieved the status of a celebrated wellness coach.
He says, “I still remember when I was called to coach the young actors of Mohabbatein. After the session when I had to charge my fees, Yash Chopra jokingly asked ‘kasrat karne ke liye itna thodi na charge karte hai?’ But today, everyone understands the importance of fitness.”
He believes that an optimistic attitude and behaviour can transform a person’s health and lifestyle. “Fitness is the lowest denomination of a person’s health. The ultimate aim is to lead a healthy lifestyle,” he adds.
