Akki’s Khiladi instincts

After long 12 years, Akshay Kumar is back playing with his upcoming film Khiladi 786 where he is romancing Asin Thottumkal onscreen. In city for the promotion of the film, Akshay says that he is hoping that his lucky charm, “Khiladi”, works again.

“The series has given me many hits and I am hoping that this one will also be liked by the audience,” says Akshay at Westin Hotel, Gurgaon, during a press conference with his leading lady Asin.
The film is an action-comedy but Akshay calls it a family film. He says, “Every filmmaker thinks he is making a Sholay, but it’s the audience who delivers the final verdict. Khiladi 786 is a film with over-the-top action and comedy. So far Khiladi series has been all about action but we are hoping that the comedy element will make it more entertaining,” says Akshay, who has done some really dangerous stunts for the film.
His jump from a 45 feet high balcony without any cables, wire or a body double has already made the headlines. Akshay says that he is always ready to do such scenes.
“Being in the air, even for just three seconds, is thrilling. But I performed the stunt after proper training and had about 300 people around me during the act. Such scenes are not just dangerous or thrilling but also require proper training,” he adds.
While Akshay’s stunts are being talked about, Asin says that her character is also very different from the other characters that she has played so far. “Not only because my I am playing a Marathi character in the film, but I am playing a very rough and confident girl who is different from the sweet girl next door that the audience has seen me play the most. I have also learnt a little bit of Marathi for this role,” smiles Asin.
Akshay seemed totally unfazed by the controversies of Khiladi 786’s release clashing with Aamir Khan’s Talaash. “There are enough theatres in the country for two big films to run together. Also, both films are releasing at a week’s gap. So I do not see any conflict here,” he says before adding that ‘786’ is another lucky charm for him. “The figure — 786 — is considered a good omen before starting any work. So it made sense to add this to the title,” he adds. The film releases on December 7.
