‘Albums don’t come with deadlines’
Sandeep Chowta is a busy man. Adding aplomb and energy to every frame in a feature film with his background score, the musician took out some time to speak to us before stepping back into his recording studio to do what he does best, creating music.
Q. What is keeping our talented musician busy these days?
I have been really busy composing background tracks for films. But what is really taking up most of my time currently is recording for an album, which is very close to my heart. I am working very, very hard on it.
Q.What were you doing all this time that you were away?
I was away completing SCP (Sandeep Chowta Project) and I am now waiting for the correct time to release it. I have been working on it for the past eight-nine years now and it is the sum total of a lot of love, effort and hard work.
Q. Do you enjoy the process of creating music for films?
Yes absolutely! It is a very different process, and I am totally loving it! The difference with albums is that, you don’t have a deadline. You can take time, work on it and come out with the perfect product. But with films, one has to meet a deadline which at times becomes a little hectic.
Q. Which has been your personal favourite film that you worked on?
I loved working on Paan Singh Tomar. I had very few days to work on it and it was a dark house. It was stuck for two years but I loved it. Working with Prabhu Deva was fun, Sanjay Dutt was an absolute blast!
Q. What about your upcoming projects? What can we look forward to next from you?
I’m in the process of conceptualising for other albums. You will hear something from me soon.
