All in the family

His own career is soaring high both nationally and internationally. And he has his kitty full with the sequels of his three earlier hit films Mr India, Race and No Entry. But it is the achievement of both his daughters Sonam and Rhea that has made actor Anil Kapoor, a proud man. “I just love the feeling. I’ve got success, my daughters are doing well, my son is excelling in his studies in Los Angeles and even my wife has made a great comeback as a jewellery designer,” says Kapoor, who was in the capital recently. He adds that that Sunita (his wife) designed all the jewellery for Aisha.
“It feels good to see her so involved with her work. She studied fashion designing with top designers and launched her fashion label, ‘Amaya’. But after marriage, her career took a back seat and she got involved in bringing up the kids. Though on and off she indulged in designing, she never gave it serious time. But this time she has made a huge comeback. She has been very involved with Aisha,” says Kapoor.
And the fact that Aisha, a film from his production house, has created a lot of buzz among young movie buffs, has made Kapoor, a happy man.
Interestingly, many social networking sites are flooded with the film’s promos. “Rhea has done a great job. Whether it is coming out with the promos on networking sites or any other decision regarding the marketing of the film, Rhea is control and doing it all by herself,” says Kapoor.
However, when Rhea, Sonam and Sunita first came up with the idea, Kapoor was shooting abroad for his other projects. He had no time to look after this film. “I was very reluctant, but they were keen to do this. The three women in my house were in the majority so I had no other option but to agree,” he quips.
But he is happy, in fact “very happy” with the final result. “It’s a young film with 23 as the average age of the actors. And I’m sure, the way it has been executed, many people would like to see it,” he says.
Ask him about his next production venture after this adaptation of Emma, any other book or plot he has in mind, and he says, “Now, Rhea is the boss. She can answer this question better.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
