Animal lovers want answers for deaths
Twenty-three-year old Niyyatie S. Dua wants answers as to who killed her five stray dogs within a span of four months. A resident of Kailash Hills, Niyyatie organised a rally in her colony recently and garnered huge support from animal activists, who gathered to voice their concern.
Said Niyyatie, “These dogs were with me for the past nine years, and there has been no case of robbery in our lane. I suspect a gang of robbers behind these incidents. It isn’t our neighbours since no one raised their voices against them ever.”
She adds, “The main aim for this rally was to spread awareness in our colony about somebody poisoning dogs and raise security issues. My dogs were fed non-vegetarian food laced with rat poison. If not for these dogs, anybody, for example, even birds, could have fallen prey to it.”
Dog lover Geeta Arora says, “It’s very unfortunate that dogs were poisoned. Many a time when I feed dogs in my lane, there are people who don’t like it. They pass comments like, ‘why don’t I feed them in my house.’ How does one ensure the safety of these dogs?”
Niyyatie, who has filed a police complaint, says, “Whoever is behind this will be punished. This is a message for them. My dogs did not deserve to die like this.”
Animal lover Mita Dasgupta says, “I doubt there are robbers behind this. Five dogs in four months sounds like a well chalked out plan. If one thinks of it, robbers wouldn’t wait for this long to strike. It could be somebody in the neighbourhood who may have done this.”
Offering a feasible solution to the problem of feeding dogs in colonies Mita says, “Today, dogs and humans need to co-exist. Residents can allocate a small place in the colony where they can feed dogs, and there will be no chance of any bad blood with anybody.”
