Animated films enjoy adult fans

Animation movies have more fans that you ever thought. And it would be incorrect to say that they can’t compete with mainstream cinema. Looking at the new trend, many people have started watching animations; rather some prefer them over soppy films. Recently, a news report also stated how actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, a self-confessed fan of animation movies, got fellow actress Sonal Chauhan into watching the same.

Shruti Patel, 30, a marketing advisor, is totally into animation movies despite her age. “Animations are just awesome, no two ways about it. Though you don’t need a reason to love them, I feel we like them because it brings out the kid in all of us and takes us back to our childhood. The stories of good over evil, stories woven around make believe yet cute characters, the concept of animals, trees, toys having feelings and being able to talk teach us compassion and empathy for everyone around. By taking us back to our childhood, it reconnects the chord we have with innocence and belief in good,” says she.
Many people prefer animation movies because they have something new to offer every time. “There are no repeat actors, no fake emotions or melodramatic situations in animation movies. I get really bored of watching the same faces emote almost the same expressions in any other movie. On the other hand, animations are light and entertaining. Watch this movie called Up, I can bet you’ll be blown away,” says Nishi Bhargava, 32, a housewife.
The Incredible, Toy Story, Ice Age, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille and the Lion King are just a few names. “Even animation in India has got so much better. Look at Hanuman and Pandavas – The Five Warrior, they are great movies both story wise and effect wise. Animation is definitely something that you can watch any time,” says Gaurav Raheja, 24, an animation student.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
