Anusha adds Bhojpuri flavour to Sea of Poppies
Anusha Rizvi, found commercial and critical success with her last film, Peepli Live (2010). She is returning with her next, based on the novel by Amitav Ghosh, Sea of Poppies.
Talking about the theme of the movie, Anusha said, “The story is an adventure set against the backdrop of the opium trade during the British rule in India in nineteenth century. It will be a typical masala entertainer with a love angle, a revenge saga, adventure and action set against the backdrop of the sea.”
Anusha has teamed up with her partner Mahmood Farooqui to direct the film.
Rizvi added, “We as well as Amitav Ghosh felt that this film can fully be realised only in Bhojpuri. The film will also be made in English.”
Are they planning to experiment with your cast? Rizvi said, “Most of our casting will be from the areas of the film where we will be shooting, basically Chapra and Ara and other places around Patna.”
Appreciating the husband-wife duo, author Amitav Ghosh said in his blog, “The talented duo have great energy, passion and perseverance to make a film on the book.”
