Apple set to tighten screws

Apple, berated by tech experts around the world for its proprietary policies, has just tightened the screws even further. In a new regulation aimed at clamping down on jailbreaking, enabling an Apple product to use third party applications, the company has announced that it will fit all its products with custom-made screws that only an Apple technician can open. Considering that Apple also launched the iPad in India for the first time recently, it will be interesting to see how India reacts to the decision.
Tech writer and blogger Nimish Sawant says the screws being present on the iPad wouldn’t make as much difference as launching it in India nine months after its global release. “Now they are planning to launch the iPad 2 abroad. Does it make sense to buy the iPad in India now, when the second version is just around the corner? As for the screws, only first-time users of Apple will be deterred by the move. Seasoned users, used to Apple’s proprietary policies, know what to expect and prefer the closed door strategy.”
Sawant’s views find resonance from other techphiles. Event management consultant Dylan Roberts says the Apple’s iStore is far superior to any other marketplace. “I’ve been using the iPhone for a couple of years and have never even felt the absence of third party apps. The store is well stocked and the apps available are much better than the Android ones.”
