Are you hungry or thirsty?
Recent research has shown that the weight-watchers often fail to interpret the signals that their stomachs send out to them. For instance, one of the most common mistakes is when one thinks one is hungry and reaches out for those cookies to munch on when one is just thirsty. Experts say that interpreting these signals right holds the key to successful weightloss. “Confusing hunger and thirst is very common. If you feel hungry within three hours of eating, then it is likely that you are thirsty. So just drink a glass of water. If that doesn’t satisfy you then go in for a glass of juice or buttermilk or even some green tea,” says Dr Krithika Sukumar, a nutritionist.
Here are some simple tips:
If you feel hungry drink some water or any fluids and wait for half an hour. The feeling should most likely disappear.
Go in for something like a juice or smoothie if you have the craving for something sweet.
Usually these ‘hunger pangs’ strike at the end of a hectic day at work. Don’t gorge on those samosas, instead have a bowl of healthy soup.
Sometimes this also happens due to dehydration or low blood pressure. Keep glucose at hand.
