Artist’s tryst with her soulful reality
Art is often a mode of introspection or self-analysis. Similarly, Vibha Maurya’s artworks narrate a tale of self-discovery. Talking about her upcoming exhibition, “Soulful Reality”, Vibha says, “Th exhibition brings together a collection of works made over a period of two years.”
The works are a portrayal of the artist’s own experiences. “Since the works are an intimate sharing of my personal experiences in response to the immediate surroundings, I expect they would resonate well with the viewers,” says the ceramic artist.
Vibha has honed her skills at abstraction, but figurative or representational art is the aesthetic she seeks to master.
Talking about her inspirations, Vibha shares, “I take cues from everyday visual cultural mediums like advertising, cinema, magazines and the key element in my works is keeping it minimal and simple.”
Vibha consciously works on keeping the female figures simple and gives the background lavish detailing, so as to bring out a clear picture of the story behind the lone figure; just like the story of a protagonist of a psychological thriller.
She often revisits her work for corrections. There have been times when she has completely reworked on her canvases. Asked who is the woman in the paintings, she replies, “That is my inner life positioned in the exteriority of the women figures.”
Vibha’s paintings talk of simplicity amid complexity; of solitude in a crowded place and of silent reflection in the cacophonic metro life. Aren’t these the same things our souls seek too?
