On an aural visual high
Best known for their edgy, irreverent, interesting aural and visual experience, BLOT! is releasing its debut album backed by a multi-city 3D tour. With the first gig in Delhi today, the collection of tracks from Delhi duo Gaurav Malaker and Avinash Kumar goes beyond their previous incarnation as a minimal techno act.
An acronym for the Basic Love of Things, BLOT is a multidisciplinary project helmed by Malaker and Kumar and supported by a network of artistes, and focuses on creating atypical clubland experiences. Set to hit stores in October, the new album SNAFU (acro-nym originally used in the military for Situation Normal, All F*ed Up) also has interesting collaborators like Vasundhara Vidalur from blues-pop act Adil and Vasundhara and Suryakant Sawhney from the Peter Cat Recording Co.
“There’s a mix of future pop sounds, techno (of course) some lo fi and chill out electronica,” says Malaker. Much research has also gone into making the tour visually strong. The multisensory live show stars BLOT’s 3D visual set and marks the first 3D tour in India. “It is essentially a bespoke video-based installation that, as with the album, brings together many years of influences and technological tinkering into an undulating, streaming digital skin,” says Avinash. “We’re doing some of the show in 3D so folks get to wear 3D glasses. And since the music has a softer, emotional side, we are looking at creating a nice mood with lights and projections,” he adds.
