B’wood’s top 10 Twitterati

The Twitter fever is catching on strong in Bollywood with even senior actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, who has a blog for himself, unable to resist the temptation. Here’s a list of the most popular Bollywood biggies on Twitter.
Shah Rukh Khan is known as ‘Badshah of Bollywood’ for a reason — it is very evident from the huge number of fans he has managed on Twitter within just six months of signing up! During the controversies surrounding My Name Is Khan and the IPL, he was tweeting by the minute.
Ranking second is the curvy Priyanka Chopra — not only does she beat many a male star but she also is the female star with the most followers. She is also amongst the star pioneers who started this trend – she has been around for a year-and-a-half.
The third place is held by the usually media shy Hrithik Roshan and amazingly, this is despite the fact that he is a relatively new entrant who is not even very active on Twitter. He has managed about 10,000 more followers than Twitter regular, Abhishek Bachchan, who is fourth on the popularity list. He has posted 6,600 tweets since November last year.
Incidentally, his father, superstar Amitabh Bachchan is just a month old on Twitter but is going strong and already Big B has only less than a lakh followers less than his son.
Bubbly kudi Preity Zinta might not have had too many releases in the recent past but her Twitter account is full of tweets with a huge number of followers keeping a close watch on her.
Another dimpled actress, Deepika Padukone joined Twitter about two months prior to the release of Karthik Calling Karthik. She is the least active of the top 10 most followed Bollywood actors but her number of followers have enabled her to bag the sixth rank.
Shahid Kapur who will turn a year old on Twitter in July is a slightly disappointing seventh. Considering his alleged girlfriend Priyanka has over four lakh followers, we expected Shahid to fare a little better.
Just recently, Salman Khan joined up the Twitter bandwagon but he is fast learning the ropes. He has also apologised to his tweeps that he is busy with work and thus not able to tweet often but within a month-and-a-half, he has already become the eighth most popular Bollywood actor on Twitter. Young Genelia is a Twitter veteran which is perhaps why this sunshine girl shines at the ninth position. Considering actresses like Sonam Kapoor and Lara Dutta are also tweeting, Genelia has managed a major following.
Farhan Akhtar makes it to the tenth position on Twitter, with a little over one-and-a-half lakh followers. This rather reclusive producer-director-actor manages one tweet here and there but guess his followers are happy even with that.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
