Bachelor pad to home
It’s no mean feat to tweak a bachelor’s pad to a home for a couple. Fashion designer Samant Chauhan and his wife Romsha took more than three months to turn Samant’s two BHK flat in Hauz Khas to a home. “There was nothing except a bed, few chairs, tables and some daily utility things,” says Romsha.
But Samant’s fondness for art and a keen eye for interesting objects didn’t take much effort for them to turn their abode into a “cool” house. From a fish shaped lock at the entrance and tribal masks bought from the International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan to mementoes from tours to various places and self-designed objects including photographs and art works, the recently decorated house boasts of an unusual décor.
One of the main walls in the living area has a set of six different inter-connecting black and white paintings by Samant. “I was interested in Madhubani art since childhood. These works are inspired from the Madhubani style of painting,” he says.
This is not the only area where Samant’s creativity is displayed. A narrow gallery outside the bedroom displays photographs that he clicked on his tour to Paris and London.
Other areas have been decorated keeping in mind a particular theme. Like, bedroom has an all-wooden theme with everything from the bed, cupboard, telephone and mirror frame in wood.
Similarly, the dining area, wisely separated from the living area by placing a bar table in between, has an elephant theme with elephant motifs on cupboards, tables and other objects. A Moroccan tiled cupboard adds colour to this area mostly ruled by dark brown.
