Banker explores college politics

Banking is what he does to pay the bills and writing is what gives him pleasure. Three-books-old author Prashant Sharma is ready with his fourth Love, Power, Politics!!, which revolves around college politics.
Born and raised in Chandigarh, he came to Delhi in 2000 and calling it home ever since. After graduating from Delhi College of Engineering, he went to IIM Lucknow for an MBA and banks have been keeping him busy since then.
Like many engineering and management students, he too discovered that he possessed the power to play with words.
“It started off as autobiographical but when I finished it, I realised that post-editing I had cut all parts which were related to my life and had a completely fresh take on college life and had my first book Love, Life & A Beer Can!” says Sharma.
Love, Power, Politics!! is on politics and the extent to which people can go to attain power. Managing his profession with passion has not been an issue so far.
“The process of writing does not take much time now and is possible on weekends and after office. While reading I like to pick up fast paced action books and have recently enjoyed Harlan Coben’s work,” he tells us.
New young writers like Chetan Bhagat, who not only made a section of the country read but also made a small section write, inspired him too. However, with an overdose of campus fiction hitting the shelves, aren’t we done with this genre?
“If you have something new to offer, people will lap it up. If as an author you want to be taken seriously, you have to keep innovating. The trend of college romance is over now and if you do not follow the herd, people will respect your work,” he sums up.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
