He has been ruling the hearts of his fans in theatres, now Barfi comes closer to you through the virtual world. The Flavour of Barfi, a YouTube app is creating a buzz online with Ranbir Kapoor dancing to your tunes, literally! With over 10 crore views, many youngsters, Internet addicts and RK’s die-hard fans are hooked on to this fun app, where you type an emotion and Barfi does what you command.

There are two ways of making him act as per your wish. Whether you want to impress a girl — through Barfi’s Patao-shala or want to change Barfi’s mood — just type and lo-behold Barfi acts on your directions. “He is so adorable. Whatever you type he does that. But I cannot type the same emotion again and if he doesn’t understand a command he makes such cute faces to ask for a different word. So the virtual Barfi too has a mind of his own,” says HR professional Lulu M.N.
Make Barfi sad, frightened, naughty, romantic, disgusted, angry or nerdy, the emotions are many. To patao (impress) a girl, he will buy a diamond, will kiss and strip, will dance, go shopping, cook, buy chocolates, play the guitar and will do a 100 other things. “It’s fun to make him do such things. The best was the disgusted look. He is reading a book and there is a hair strand in his mouth which he tries to pull out and is unsuccessful. The disgusted look is definitely to die for. The next best emotion was him getting angry. Without any dialogues he plays a popular Sunny Deol dialogue to show he is angry, that was really smart,” says marketing professional Ambika Nathan, adding, “I only wish we could replace RK in this app with our boyfriends, it would be all the more fun.”
Not just individuals, Barfi is keeping groups of people engaged in offices as well and many others who haven’t tried it are intrigued by what they have seen. “Itseems to have become the flavour of the season. It’s not like a viral video, instead it keeps everyone do things and engaged with Ranbir, that’s what is different,” says RJ Rakesh.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
