After being caught up in a dreadful traffic jam, do you feel that you could have done a better job as a traffic cop? Now’s the time to prove your proficiency at handling the traffic snarls and jams. Yes, during the Commonwealth Games you can regulate traffic on Delhi roads.
Delhi Police has invited ‘motivated city residents’ to enroll themselves as volunteers for traffic regulation during the CWG. Requisites for this program: Delhiites above 18 years of age, who have passed Class XII, should preferably have a driving license.
“It would be great to see a ‘common man’ regulating traffic, but how would he be able to manage the mess on roads?” says Neeti Prasad, Delhi-based professional, who like many others is dreading the traffic situation during the sporting extravaganza.
According to the officials, a volunteer will have to work for at least three hours a day during those 20 days, at a time of his choice. However, no remuneration will be paid, as it is an “honorary volunteership”.
“Does that mean that the traffic department is understaffed, and they are not in a position to hire more people?” wonders 21-year-old Rishab Sinha, a DU student.

Given the sweltering heat, who would take up such a task? “Volunteering is fun for students, and they might sign up for it. But why not come up with a permanent solution to address the mounting traffic of the city that may last even after CWG?” suggests Rimmi Sharma, a student.
