Beautiful Shruti dons bold avatar
Towering height, peach and cream complexion and chiseled features — she is immensely noticeable even in milling crowd. One of the most popular faces down South, actress Shruti Haasan might not have managed to strike gold in B-town but the leggy lass is all set to change that with a bold performance in Nikhil Advani’s upcoming film, D-Day, where she plays a Pakistani prostitute opposite Arjun Rampal. In city, to launch the May 2013 issue of Maxim, that features her on the cover, the actress talks about movies, fashion and her father.
“Language has never been a criterion for me while choosing films. The role, director and script are all that matters to me. Down South, I have got ample opportunities and got the kind of roles that appeal to me. In Bollywood, I am looking forward to such roles,” says Shruti. Soon she is thrilled about playing a prostitute from Napier Road, Karachi, in D-Day.
Talking about her role, she says, “Playing a commercial sex worker, the character required immense emotional integrity and intensity. It is one of the most challenging roles I have done so far. The story is also very interesting, a silent love saga between a prostitute and RAW agent.”
Shruti idolises her father and feels he is a phenomenal actor. “Even at the age of 60, my father is extremely hardworking and does not think of anything beyond acting and movies. The earnestness with which he performs gives me inspiration. And yes, he has a very funny side to him,” she smiles. She also adds that she respects her father and is proud about the way he handles controversies, giving example of his film Vishwaroopam, that had ruffled communal feathers.
She also reveals that in matters of fashion, she is a bohemian at heart. “What I wear, is usually a reflection of my mood. There is nothing specific that I love. My style is very individualistic. I like experimenting. Black is my favourite colour and you will see me wearing that mostly,” confesses the 27-year-old actress.
Although not relenting much about her personal life, Shruti puts forth, “I have been brought up to be absolutely independent and like having my own space. Marriage will happen eventually. But I am not sure, if the kind of qualities I look forward in my soulmate would be easy to find. He should be kind, make me laugh but have a fierce fighting spirit.” Point taken!
