Beauty in bizarre

Sometimes, it’s the most unheard of ingredients that do wonders. We speak to Elodie Parois, a beauty expert from the Jean Claude Biguine Salons & Spa chain with 11 years of experience in the beauty industry on these secret yet bizarre wonders.
It’s no surprise that most of us use numerous products and undergo various treatments in our quest for healthy, lustrous hair and flawless skin. And in the ever-changing beauty industry, our options are only increasing. The options available are limitless.
Natural products based treatments are always the foremost alternative for most of us. Use of natural fruits and herbs only enhances an experience, like an orange combined with sea salt is a good body exfoliant to get rid of dry skin. Or try grainy sugar combined with aromatic oil for a rejuvenating and moisturising exfoliation.
Take it a step further and replace it with organic sugar. Most of these treatments are a combination of rare essential oils, plant extracts combined with a moisturising cream. Exotic ingredients and extracts like argan, rosewood and sunflower don’t just appeal to the senses but provide wholesome skin care. Argan is gaining quick popularity as a miracle ingredient. It has high levels of Vitamin E and 80 per cent fatty acids which make it perfect for healing skin ailments as well as protecting against premature aging caused by oxidation. Rosewood and sunflower extracts are included in anti-aging skincare products and help to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin.
A popular trend is marine based treatments with ingredients like marine plants, sea weeds and fresh water algae, which are rich in natural minerals.
However, the extreme beauty treatments also coexist. Starting from the famed snake milk bath of Cleopatra to the champagne and diamond dips of today, the weird side of beauty treatment will always be there on the side-lines of the extreme beauty treatments. So serious is the quest for beauty that there are those who indulge in — Mayonnaise pack if you desire shiny hair, bird dropping facial, snail serum for glowing skin, chilli pepper foot bath, charcoal scrub for face, bee mucus for wrinkles, gold facials and snake slime as an anti ageing ingredient and more. While a trend, the effects of such treatments are still unaccounted for. The jury is still out on that.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
