Beer gets a spicy makeover
Indians love their spices and it’s this obsession that has fuelled a one-of-its-kind range of spiced beers being launched in the country. Indus Pride has been launched in four variants — Citrusy Coriander, Citrusy Cardamom, Spicy Fennel and Fiery Cinnamon.
SABMiller managing director Derek Jones admits that the Indians’ penchant for spice in their food has inspired this range. “The variants have been developed with Indian cuisine in mind. Two of our variants, Citrusy Coriander and Citrusy Cardamom are more refreshing and are compatible with very spicy foods; Spicy Fennel and Fiery Cinnamon are relatively complex beers and pair well with less spicy foods and select Indian desserts.”
True to his words, the Citrusy beers when tried, are a burst of energy. Muted in flavours yet heavy in character, they leave a wonderfully Indian aftertaste. The Fiery Cinnamon though is a revelation — a lilting aroma coupled with a deeply spicy character, it’s a must-try.
Jones is confident this offering will be a hit. “Indus Pride is a beer brewed in India for the people of India and the rest of the world. We are confident of an encouraging response.” Priced at `85 for a 330 ml pint, it is sure to spice things up in the beer market in India.
