Beware of these Internet threats
The Internet is a great, although scary place. Here are some of the latest threats you should keep in mind while surfing the web.
1) YouTube Threat: You might get this particular message on your email, claiming to be the YouTube Team. Don’t believe them. They’re trying to get you to install a Trojan:
Subject: Your video may have illegal content
Attached file: Content_ID755658_Matches.-zip
Message body: Your video may have content that is owned or licensed by Music… The YouTube Team”
2) Adobe PDF: There’s a known threat that exists for users filling certain forms in PDF files. It can duplicate your entire temp folder and slow down your system. A new update available, however, fixes this. Please also delete the XFA file “%temp%\file.dll”.
3) Fake App Scams: As always, people are always trying to cash in on new, popular apps like Instagram, Angry Birds, etc., by posting fake apps to the store (uncurated as of yet) and getting people to download them instead, by fooling them. Beware of your app downloads and always try and check the developer’s name on the store with the actual dev.
4) DHL/Courier Scam: If you buy online, you might get couriers. This scam sends you an email saying your parcel has been delivered to your post office and that you should go pick it up. You will also be asked to download a postal receipt, and that’s where they’ll catch you.
