Bhagat Singh is Gauti’s idol
India’s leading cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s candour can be mistaken for being curt; but that’s the persona he’s built around him. We recently caught up with the cricketer where he spoke about his dedication towards fitness, love for the capital and more.
Talking about his fitness mantra the cricketer says, “I am a fitness freak. I ought to be fit, and my profession also demands the same. As a cricketer, I would like to spend the maximum time on the field. One tip that I would like to share with fitness enthusiasts is that the right kind of shoes are very crucial while exercising.”
Gautam, who was present in the city for the launch of Reebok’s Real Flex 2.0, shared, “One moment that is really close to my heart was when I represented India in the final of World Cup 2011. I scored 97 from 122 balls. It was a real moment of pride.”
Gautam’s fan page on Facebook, that has more than nine crore fans, speaks of the craze and fan following that the sportstar has amongst youngsters. Is Gautam also addicted to any of the social networking sites? “Well, I am thankful to all the fans for being so supportive and sharing so much of love, but I have not checked my fan page so far. But I am very active on Twitter.”
Talking about the bond Gauti shares with his wife he says, “Natasha, my wife, is the hottest women according to me. She is my strength and my support. She takes ample care of my fitness regime and is very supportive of my passion for cricket.”
So what is common between Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Gautam Gambhir? Apparently, you would not find any similarity between the two. One would expect that the Southpaw would name the likes of Sobers, Richards, Gavaskar or Sachin as his hero when asked to name his role model. But he names Bhagat Singh as his idol. And the freedom fighter inspires the cricketer so much so that he wishes to be reincarnated as his idol.
Gautam is a pucca Dilliwalla at heart. When away from home the cricketer misses aloo puri with kheer cooked by his mom.
