Big ticket to fashion fame
The excitement of being declared the Indian winner of International Woolmark Prize is very palpable in Rahul Misra’s voice. The young designer confesses that this award is one of the best things to happen in his career. “It’s a professional high and one of the biggest achievements for me. It is going to help me enter international market which is full of big names,” says Rahul, who is now preparing an all-new collection in Merino wool to showcase at Milan.
Rahul was awarded for an off-white wool outfit, which he based on the concept of ahimsa. “The real inspiration for this outfit was Lord Buddha and his symbol white lotus. White lotus is pure and its petals symbolise an embryo, from where life originates. With this, I tried to tell a story through my creation, which portrays the journey of human race and the process of metamorphosis that our planet has undergone. The wool used in my jacket dress is an eco friendly un-dyed Marino yarn, which is apt for summer,” says Rahul.
Chosen amongst ten promising talents coming from India and the Middle East, Rahul says judges understood his story in his second attempt, “I could win this time because judges related to my story told in a different way.”
Talking about his capsule collection to be showcased during the event that will have the global finalists, he says, “My collection will be practical, simple, light and have an universal language,” he ends.
