Blog while on the go
Radio producer Ekta Valecha is one of the traditional bloggers for whom the character restrictions of Twitter are a hindrance to share her experiences. Her blog becauseektawantstotalk.blogspot.com is about the adventures of a young girl living alone in city. A frequent traveller, however, she would miss updating her entries unless she had access to a computer, but now powered by her Android smartphone she can blog 24x7 from anywhere.
Valucha is one of the many Indian bloggers for whom the advent of smartphones has been more than just about Facebook or Twitter. “I use Blogger, and since iPhone didn’t had a Blogger app, until now, writing new posts on my phone was next to impossible. But now I’m like blogging every other hour. It has made my work so much easier,” she says.
Google Inc., the owners of Blogger.com, after a long time, finally launched their mobile app for the iOS platform. A huge relief for iPhone and iPad users! For Android phone users, it’s been around since early 2011. And this is a huge step, says tech expert and avid blogger Suresh Pilgaonkar. “There are millions of smartphone users, who tweet and are logged into Facebook 24x7. Many among them are avid bloggers too. The availability of mobile blog apps has made blogging a lot easier for them. I mean, you are travelling and writing on your new blog post, and at the same time you can also post the link on Twitter,” he says.
Monish Moorthy, who writes his own cricket blog, says, “Wordpress.com, another popular blogging service provider, has been leading the race so far because it saw the potential of mobile blogging long ago. It’s another thing Wordpress pages also download faster than Blogger’s.”
Another problem that the availability of mobile blog apps have solved, especially on the Android platform is that one doesn’t have to struggle through the unfit-for-mobile templates, says Aaron Durham. “Just install these apps and you are ready to go,” he says, adding, “Besides the official Blogger and Wordpress apps, there are several other customised mobile apps like Blog-Droid available for free (the premium version is ad free), which offers you some advanced features like uploading videos et al.”
