Bollywood’s golden girl dons ‘arty’ avatar
She’s been seen in blockbuster films of the masaledar sort. But with her next, Lootera, Sonakshi Sinha seems to be going the “arty” way. Is Sona finally focusing on performance-oriented films? “It’s nothing like that,” the Sinha girl tells us. She continues, “As an actor, you ought to be comfortable delivering your ‘goods’ in any given slot — be it an art film or a fun project.”
Sonakshi says she chose Lootera in a matter of a minute. “The film offered us the scope to showcase our talent and what we are capable of. When Vikramaditya Motwane, the director, first came to me with the script, it instantly blew away my mind. I knew I was on board,” she says.
Sonakshi’s onscreen character in Lootera, Pakhi, is a zamindar’s daughter with a keen interest in the arts. “She is innocent, sweet, playful and goes through a lot of emotions. I love my earthy look in the film… I feel that all Bengali women are very graceful,” says Sona.
In essaying the role, she decided it would be best to follow her director’s vision. “Frankly, I have very limited knowledge about the 1950s. Vikram gave me a clear-cut sketch of my onscreen character and its finer nuances,” Sona explains.
Incidentally, Sona plays a Bengali girl in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Bullet Raja as well, although “that is more modern and urban,” she clarifies.
About her current co-star, Sonakshi says, “I like all my co-stars actually, and have learnt something from every one of them. Ranveer is a very good co-actor and a superb dancer!”
