Booked for funny act
We catch up with multi-talented Anuvab Pal, playwright, a stand-up comedian and now a novelist, who’s all set to enthrall the Delhi audience with his fresh set of jokes at the release of his book, Chaos Theory. “The tragedy of being a stand-up comic is that a large chair, or a large celebrity to unwrap books will be absent at the do.
What will be present is me, in a coffee shop, and a new stand up show about being a writer,” says Anuvab.
Sharing his love for the “fashion” capital, the comedian says, “Delhi has got fashionable women who wear designer clothes and scan other women to see their designer clothes. It’s got journalists and writers who wear Fab India and say serious things. It’s got hipsters at Hauz Khas, theme parties, politicians who are rock stars, fixers with foreign connections, a whole cold intellectual shawl-wearing lot with British accented vibe.”
What is his observation about Delhi audience? “Delhiwallas are better dressed than Mumbaikars. At a fancy Delhi party, there’s a lot of new wealth, when someone mixes a strong Haryanvi accent layered with a British one. Also, the celebrities are media moghuls, politicians, ambassadors, or MPs,” quips Anuvab. Talking about his new TV show, he says, “Injia — The Many Highly Effective Habits of Indian People looks at the small quirky behavioural things that make us uniquely Indian.”
Anuvab has also written scripts for Loins of Punjab and The President Is Coming and is currently working on a romantic comedy with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
