Brothers with a winning idea

What do two kids in their sixth and eighth standards do in their free time? A bit difficult to say if one is president and the other the CEO of a company they founded.
Shravan (12) and Sanjay Kumaran (10), who started Go Dimensions in Chennai a year back, have already launched four mobile apps on the iOS platform. Their game app for iPad and iPhone, “Catch Me Cop”, is a hunt for an escaped convict through difficult terrains and was reviewed by Asia’s top tech website, CNET.
Their other mobile apps include “Alphabets Board” (a fun learning app for kids), “Prayer Planet” (an app to pray on the move) and “Color Palette” (an app to teach kids different colours).
It all began with the boys’ techie father getting them a desktop computer to which they were soon completely hooked. They moved rapidly from the basics to Java and Android with Steve Jobs being a definite inspiration and his “User Interface and User Experience” being objects of admiration.
The Kumaran brothers are now eager to make more apps and their own tablet, GoSheet, the lightest and thinnest devised. “The tablet will be pre-customised so that Gen Y will be able to use it differently from Gen X, and we want to add a ‘User’ so that Gen Y can log in separately,” explain the brothers.
The two, however, are regular students who are popular in school and enjoy skate boarding, swimming and playing cricket.
According to the brothers, their most memorable achievement was winning the “Lightning Pitch” round at the sixth International Knowledge Millennium Conference — IKMC 2012 held at Hyderabad earlier this year.
They had to talk about their idea in under a minute. “We spoke about our new idea, Go Map. And we won the prize! That was really cool,” says Shravan, as Sanjay nods with a smile.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
