Budding designers ready to rock LFW
When it comes to fashion, there is no dearth of talent in the capital. Recently, when the list of young and emerging designers was announced for the Lakme Fashion Week, seven out of ten budding designers were selected from Delhi. We speak to a few first-time participants, who are excited to be a part of this high-end fashion extravaganza, which will be held in August in Mumbai.
After getting shortlisted for the Gen Next category, a young team of three designers — Mehak Pruthi, Kanika Seth and Ankit Sharma, is busy with their last minute preparations to kickstart their journey in the fashion world. Speaking about their designer label, Mehak says, “Our label is called ‘Threesome’, because it is a joint venture of three creative minds. All of are fresh graduates and we are excited to present out first collection inspired by the movie Avatar. In our first collection, texturing plays a key role as the EVA (rubber) sheet teases and mingles with soft textures.”
Stylist-turned- designer Pernia Qureshi, who has already arrived in Delhi fashion circuit, is also excited to make an official entry in Mumbai, and she says, “I will be showcasing in the emerging designer category at the LFW 12. I’m working with my head-designer Jarem and we have created a retro-inspired vintage collection that is truly a reflection of my design sensibilities. It’s very feminine and I would imagine someone like a Grace Kelly wearing these chic outfits.”
For designer duo, Astha Sethi and Sidharth Arora, who are excited to be in the LFW for the first time, the inspiration was Pacman. Speaking about the collection, Astha mentions, “We are very colourful and quirky in our approach, we believe in dreaming and creating our own imaginary world with installation like garments. Our label is called ANS, which is the short form of our initials. The idea came from the concept of prey and predators, and we picked up Pacman to show the quirky side of it. We have worked with exaggerated silhouettes balanced with delicate details and dramatic colours.”
