Buy, sell music on new website
Musicfellas, is a newly launched website that allows Indian bands to sell and release their music online. The social networking format of the website permits music connoisseurs to comment and discuss music with friends.
The website, musicfellas.com aims to integrate the fragmented Indian music by enabling users to listen music online and buy music that they like.
“Log on, and you will be able to listen to Indie music online and buy the music as MP3s.The band/artiste in conjunction decides the prices with the founders of the site,” says Mayank Jain, one of the founders of the website. Mayank, who was already active on musicfellas.blogspot.com, found his first co-founder in his batchmate and friend, 24 year-old Shubhranshu Jain. Gaurav Shahlot, 23-year-old engineer, one day posted a comment on Mayank’s blog and the two started discussing music. “We realised that music was the connecting link between us. That is how we found our third co-founder,” adds Mayank.
So how does this website benefit the users? “We intend to give the users an enriched music listening experience and help them have conversations around music they love,” says Mayank, an IIT graduate, who quit his job as a banker at JP Morgan recently.
“We’ve been selling physical copies bundled with T-shirts and stickers at gigs. But, this is limited to a few places. So, I think digital downloads would really help us in reaching as many people as possible because it’s not constrained by location. And that is the ultimate motive — to spread our music,” says Reihhardt Dias from Blakc, an Indie music band that has already signed up with the Musicfellas.
