Care enough? Get booked
âEducation for allâ has been a catch-phrase for policymakers for long. But sadly even after formulating policies and introducing laws, many kids in the city do not have access to reading material. Keeping this in mind, five youngsters in the city have come together to collect books for kids who are not fortunate enough to afford them.
âDonate A Book... Make A Friend!!â is a week-long event currently on in the capital and Jaipur, where books are welcome from all. Nandan Singh Lalwal, a Masters student of Ambedkar University, one of the founding members of the drive, says that they created Share a Smile Foundation two years ago to help poverty-stricken kids and the book donation drive is their latest initiative.
âWe have come across many children from different communities including slum dwellers, red light areas and villages who want to study. They like flipping the pages of a book and discover new things. But unfortunately they donât have the means to take it forward,â says Nanadan, who through this initiative wants to develop a library for children who wish to study.
Another member Sundeep Choudhary, M.Com student at Delhi School of Economics, says that itâs like creating a learning centre for the kids. âThe books collected in both the cities would be kept at our centre in Jaipur and would be available to any child who wants to read,â says Sundeep.
