Carry on popping!
With his seemingly bone-less popping and locking style, flexible body and tremendous passion for dance, young dancer and choreographer Phillip Chbeeb was in the capital to train city youngsters at a workshop organised by the Big Dance Centre.
Philip, who learnt his art on the streets, rose to fame with the popular American talent show So You Think You Can Dance — Season 5. “After that came all best possible opportunities. Recently my appearance in the dance mob in American dance film Step Up Revolution (Step Up 4) has been one of my biggest achievements. What I like about hip-hop dance and popping is that it almost seems unreal how some people can twist and turn their bodies. It also opens a big room for creativity and improvisation. My first dancing stint was funny, as I wore clothes that were way too big for me and did some crazy moves,” shares Philip, who started dancing when he was 15 years old.
Sharing about his fondness for Bollywood dance, Philip says, “I have seen a couple of videos of Prabhudeva and liked them. Bollywood dancing is a powerful dance form as it has traditional Indian influences mixed with hip-hop moves that makes it a very flexible style.”
About Delhi youngsters, Philip says, “It’s a talent hub here in India. Delhi kids are cheerful and peppy and not scared to try new moves and they are receptive to more knowledge.”
