Cashing in on controversy

In yet another controversial scenario, SRK is said to have openly kissed a celeb guest on one of the international shows. Behavioural experts feel that celebs are targeted intentionally as a way of creating hype, which is why controversial issues such as one’s sexual orientation is chosen to spur people’s reactions.
“It depends on each individual’s way of putting up a Public Display of Affection (PDA). And websites or channels look to cash in on such controversies to increase TRPs and hits. One should respect an individual’s freedom of expression and not humiliate anybody,” says Saraswathi Bhaskar, behavioural expert and counsellor.
Some feel it is an individual’s freedom to express feelings in public and it is unfair to blow things out of proportion. “SRK does not owe anyone an explanation as to what his sexual orientation is. And also, I don’t think anyone of his stature would resort to such actions just to gain cheap publicity,” comments fashion designer Rehane Yavar Dhala.
“It could be a hoax created by the channel,” says designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
