Celebs chip in to boost campaign

We often see some campaign in our city to save the planet that makes news for some days, but it’s usually talked about and then promptly forgotten. But, how often do we take up the cause seriously and try to implement it in everyday life? On World Environment Day we found out what our city celebs are doing to save the environment.
According to artist Naresh Kapuria, the most important thing to be highlighted in current times should be to save the existing organisms in their natural habitat. He says, “In the past few years, there has been a decline in the population of birds in the capital. Though, we can’t do much about it, but at an individual level, we all can at least feed them or provide them with drinking water on a daily basis. I have got a small pond-like structure on my terrace and during summers I fill it up with water, where many birds come and rest during this hot weather. I also ask my friends and acquaintances to do the same and spread awareness about it.”
Model Kajal Srivastava feels conserving water is something everyone can do, and it doesn’t require much effort to recycle water even at an individual level. She says, “During summers, I use the AC and I keep a bucket below the AC to collect the water that leaks. I use it to water my plants.”
For designer Leena Singh, saying no to polybags and practicing vegetarianism is the best way to protect the environment. She says, “I always use paper bags or carry bags made of natural material. I avoid using polythene bags and tell everyone around me to go for bags that can be recycled. Also I am a pure vegetarian, which I feel is a good way to save birds and animals from being slaughtered.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
