Winter has myriad shades. From being the most romantic season to being the most difficult period to endure, especially for the homeless. Recently ‘spread the warmth’ campaign by NGO Goonj was started at DLF Place, Saket. It drew a good response from Delhiites.

Various designers and socialites were seen doing their bit for the society as a part of this initiative. From donating shoes, bags to clothes and winter wear, the philanthropists from the capital were happy to help the needy.
Designer Rina Dhaka mentioned, “Even though I am not a very charitable person, I felt the need to participate for this cause. I know the stuff I will give will reach the right hands. I gave a bag from my own wardrobe. I am also planning to give my children’s clothes.”
Designer Ankita Chaudhary and her sister Avantika, who donated warm winter clothes for kids, feel that it is important to give back to the society, as it generates a positive message. Says Ankita, “We used to live in Mussoorie before we shifted to Delhi, so we had loads of warm winter wear, including hand-knitted sweaters and mufflers, which we gave for the underprivileged children.”
Anshu Gupta, founder director Goonj, reveals that this was the first-of-its-kind campaign to tackle the winters for poor. He says, “Warm clothes are essential prerequisites for surviving winters. People can be saved from the wrath of winters if they have enough warm clothes. We work in almost 21 states in the country and the collectables go to the poorer parts of the country during this season.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
