Celina bats for LGBT community
The United Nations high commissioner for human rights recently launched Free and Equal, an unprecedented global public education campaign for LGBT equality. Celebrities such as Celina Jaitley, Ricky Martin, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Danaela Mercury have pledged their support for the community campaign.
“The LGBT community has been facing equality issues for quite some time now. A lot of my friends are gay and I feel very bad for the way they are treated,” said Celina.
Celina who has been fighting for gay rights for almost a decade now, says that people should be taught to understand that even gays and lesbians are human beings and should be treaty equally. “People should be a little more tolerant. Thanks to dhongi babas and the maulvis, the public has taken to these people so wrongly. They need our help to be respected by all. The LGBT community lives in a no man’s land and that is the worst thing that could happen to anyone. They can belong to neither side. In fact their sexual orientation also becomes a hindrance and prevents them from getting work to support themselves,” she explained.
The actress hopes to spread the message of equality through social media, which she believes is the strongest medium of communication in this age of technology.
